Women’s Soccer Overcomes Two One-Goal Deficits in Home Draw

The Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team battled back from one-goal deficits in each half during a 2-2 draw against Bethel University (Tennessee) on Saturday afternoon at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.

Freshman Barbora Kadlecova headed a corner kick in the 77th minute to square the contest at 2-2. The scoring play was set up by a swing pass from sophomore Nova Eskelinen after a left corner kick into the six-yard box in front of the Bethel goal. That's where Kadlecova outjumped the opposing defender and struck the ball inside the left goal post.

Earlier, No. 20-ranked GGC (6-3-3) tied the match, at 1-1, with 19 seconds left in the first half as sophomore Christy Noble weaved through the middle of Bethel's defense to convert a one-on-one scoring opportunity.

Bethel (2-7-1) grabbed a 1-0 advantage as Paula Pinilla successfully converted a penalty kick goal in the 29th minute. The visitors took a 2-1 lead in the 62nd minute as Zainab Manneh scored in a one-on-one opportunity.

Eskelinen dribbleGGC outshot Bethel by a 9-7 margin, including a 5-1 advantage during the second half. The Grizzlies recorded eight corner kicks and limited the Wildcats to just three opportunities on Saturday.

Kadlecova and Noble each scored their second goals of the season.

The team went 3-0-1 during its recent four-match home stand.

Coach's Corner
"This was the trap game for us because (Bethel) is better than its record (2-7-0 entering Saturday's match). It is just another second-half comeback to get a result from a match. Barbora (Kadlecova) won three corner kicks in the second half before scoring a beautiful goal," said Head Coach Dr. Mike Giuliano.

Turning Point
Freshman Barbora Kadlecova scored a match-tying goal off a corner kick from sophomore Nova Eskelinen in the 77th minute. The ball floated to the six-yard box where Kadlecova outjumped the Bethel defender to head the ball inside the left post. She scored her second goal of the season – with both coming off corner kicks.
