Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Ends Regular Season with Another 3-3 Draw on Senior Day

Freshman Hannah Lorenz scored a pair of second-half goals as the Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team earned a 3-3 draw against Milligan University (Tennessee) during Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.

The Grizzlies (8-5-5) overcame a 2-1 halftime deficit. Lorenz quickly squared the contest with a left-footed shot from outside the 18-yard box in the 47th minute. Sophomore Christy Noble provided a pass to an open Lorenz on the left side of the pitch.

The Noble-and-Lorenz combination teamed up again in the 67th minute to give the hosts a 3-2 lead. Once again Lorenz attempted a shot from outside the box in front of the opposing goal. The ball floated over Milligan goalkeeper Emily Robinson and deflected off the crossbar for the goal.

Milligan (10-4-3) responded with a score during the 75th minute on a tally from Destini Martinez, evening the match at 3-3. Diane Maillis scored both first-half goals for the Buffaloes, happening in the sixth and 18th minutes.

N. Maguire goal celebrationGGC got on the scoreboard in the seventh minute to tie the match, at 1-1, on a shot from senior Natalie Maguire.

The Grizzlies outshot Milligan by a commanding 21-4 margin, with eight of the hosts' shots being on goal. Lorenz led the way with six shots and junior Jessica Fuentes added five shots. Fuentes hit the left goal post in the 70th minute for a potential tally have would have given the team a commanding two-goal advantage.

In Senior Day festivities prior to the match, the program honored Izzy Bricheno, Grace Clark, Samara Dullabh, Svenja Hoppe, Kayla Maguire, Nicole Mares Rivera, Rikke Steenhold, Lore Van Onsem and Natalie Maguire for their contributions to the program during the past four seasons. This senior class has collected 31 victories and three Continental Athletic Conference championships.

Coach's Corner
"This was a deeply disappointing result. They (Milligan) were your classic sit-in, sit-in-and-counter type team. They got four shots and three of them went into our net. If we're going to score, Hannah (Lorenz) has to be in there for us. This is a great senior class and they deserve more. We're going to try to give them something special with a great performance in the tournament (CAC Soccer Championship on November 7-11 at GGC)," said Head Coach Dr. Mike Giuliano.

Turning Point
Freshman Hannah Lorenz scored two second-half goals as the Grizzlies rallied from a 2-1 halftime deficit. She found the back of the net two minutes into the period and then gave the hosts a 3-2 lead with another long-distance shot during the 67th minute.
