Women’s Soccer Scores Seven Goals in CAC Classic Opener

The Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team opened this weekend's Continental Athletic Conference Classic with a breakthrough 7-0 triumph against Carolina University (North Carolina) on Friday afternoon at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.

Players from Georgia Gwinnett College and Carolina University joined fans in wearing pink clothing in support of the Grizzlies' Cancer Awareness Game.

Friday's match marked the second contest this season in which two GGC players scored a pair of goals. The offensive outburst also broke a two-match losing streak in which the team failed to score a goal.

Freshman Alliyah Rosales scored twice during the first half, while junior Jessica Fuentes found the back of the net two times in the second 45-minute period.

The Grizzlies (7-5-3) gained control of the match early as sophomore Kathrine Lindenberg volleyed in a left side corner kick from freshman Hannah Lorenz in the 13th minute.

A few minutes later, junior Jade Perrin scored in the 18th minute when she drilled a shot into the opposing net from 25 yards away. It was her first goal of the season. Freshman Barbora Kadlecova provided a long pass to Perrin down the left side of the pitch.

Noble shotThe two goals by Rosales came in the final five minutes of the first half to give the hosts a 4-0 advantage. Her initial tally came in the 40th minute after a perfectly placed pass from sophomore Christy Noble. Three minutes later, the forward found the back of the net again by connecting a through ball from sophomore Yolanda Cruz Alt.

Then, Fuentes got into the scoring act in the second half. She converted her second successful penalty kick of the season to extend GGC's lead to 5-0 in the 53rd minute. Her long distance shot from the middle of the pitch found the back of the net during the 63rd minute.

Senior Samara Dullabh capped the team's scoring after receiving a pass from Noble at the 79-minute mark.

The Grizzlies dominated the statistics with a 23-1 advantage in shots, with 18 being on goal, and had 11 corner kicks, compared to Carolina (3-9-3) registering just one corner kick over the 90 minutes of action.

Coach's Corner
"After the first 20 minutes, we got the speed of play going to our liking and also got our creativity going in the offensive half (of the field). A lot of that goes to Christy (Noble) because of how many amazing passes she executed today," said Head Coach Dr. Mike Giuliano.

Turning Point
Consecutive goals by freshman Alliyah Rosales created separation from fellow Continental Athletic Conference foe Carolina late in the first half. Rosales' two tallies gave GGC a 4-0 halftime advantage.
