Georgia Gwinnett College women's tennis collected a 4-0 second-round sweep against St. Thomas University (Florida) to begin postseason play Wednesday afternoon at the 2024 NAIA National Championship Tournament at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama.
The Grizzlies (15-0) are the seven-time defending national champions and have a 36-1 all-time record in postseason matches.
GGC relied on strong singles play to pull away from the No. 16-seeded Bobcats. Junior
Justine Lespes remained undefeated on the season at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 victory. That provided the team's second point of the match.
Senior
Stephanie Fernandez earned a 6-4, 6-0 triumph on the No. 6 court before classmate
Angel Carney clinched the match victory, winning by identical 6-2 set scores on the No. 5 court.

The top-seeded Grizzlies recorded a pair of 6-2 victories on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts in doubles play. The NAIA's top-ranked pairing of senior
Iryna Lysykh and Fernandez helped set the tone with strong play on the No. 1 court. Then, the junior tandem of
Carol Mora and Lespes were victorious at No. 3 doubles.
"It was a very solid performance by the women today in our first match of the tournament. We're doing the right things to prepare us for the rest of the week. Doubles are really starting to come together, and our singles performance was solid. We will keep fine-tuning details along the way in this tournament," said Head Coach
Hannah Keeling.
Georgia Gwinnett College is scheduled to play against No. 9 seed Loyola University (Louisiana) in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, May 16, beginning at 1 p.m. central time, at the 2024 NAIA National Championship Tournament being played at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama.
