The top-seeded Georgia Gwinnett College men's tennis team opened defense of its NAIA national championship with a convincing 4-0 sweep against No. 16 seed University of Mobile (Alabama) in Wednesday's second-round match of the 2024 tournament, being played at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama.
The Grizzlies (15-0) have won 37 consecutive postseason matches.

The team maintained the momentum in singles play, with three straight-set victories. Sophomore
Luis Francisco Sampedro recorded a 6-3, 6-0 win on the No. 5 court before senior
Aleksa Ciric gave the Grizzlies a 3-0 lead following a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles.

Senior
Alex Gurmendi clinched the victory with the fourth point of the match by capturing identical 6-3 set scores at the top of the singles lineup.
Georgia Gwinnett College has won nine consecutive NAIA national championships.
"It was a strong start to the tournament. It is important to play our way into the tournament and get those first-day nerves out of the way. Each match is going to be tough, but we executed well. We're looking to build each day and are excited for Thursday's quarterfinal round," said Head Coach

Georgia Gwinnett College is scheduled to play against No. 9 seed Reinhardt University (Georgia) in the quarterfinal round of the 2024 NAIA National Championship on Thursday, May 16, beginning at 9 a.m. central time at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama.
