Elizabeth Funk delivered a go-ahead RBI double with two outs in the sixth inning to propel Lindsey Wilson College (Kentucky) to a 3-2 series-opening victory against the No. 10-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College softball team on the Blue Raiders' home diamond in Columbia, Kentucky, Friday evening.
All five runs scored in the contest came with two outs in the inning.
GGC (25-14) battled back from a 2-0 deficit behind consecutive base hits from junior
Haley Robinson and senior
Kloey Goins in the top of the sixth inning. Robinson connected on a double that scored junior
Lindzie Owen. Then, Goins followed with a single up the middle that brought home junior pinch runner
Kayla Good with the game-tying tally.
However, Lindsey Wilson (21-21) came through with a two-out hit of its own in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Funk's double scored the go-ahead run from first base.
Natalie Wandrie connected on a two-run homer with two outs in the fourth inning to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.
