Georgia Gwinnett College women's tennis seniors weren't going to be denied on their Senior Day.
Angel Carney,
Stephanie Fernandez,
Teodora Jovic, and
Iryna Lysykh led the NAIA's top-ranked Grizzlies to a commanding 7-0 victory against No. 6 Middle Georgia State University on Saturday afternoon at the GGC Tennis Facility.
The four-member senior class has helped GGC capture three national NAIA championships and amass two winning streaks with 30 or more consecutive matches. Saturday's match concluded GGC's 2024 regular season with a 14-0 record.
In this match, the team quickly won the doubles point behind a pair of 6-2 triumphs on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts. Juniors
Justine Lespes and
Carol Mora collected the first victory in the No. 3 match. Then, sophomore
Versace Gatti teamed with Carney to give the hosts an early 1-0 advantage in the dual match.

The Fernandez-Lysykh doubles pairing, the NAIA's No. 1-ranked doubles team, rounded out the winners in doubles with a 6-4 victory on the No. 1 court.
The Grizzlies won all six singles matches in straight sets to complete the impressive showing.
Lysykh improved her record to 11-0 on the season with a 6-1, 6-0 victory on the No. 2 court. Lespes extended the lead to 3-0, while also remaining undefeated, with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 1 singles. Lespes, the NAIA's top-ranked singles player, concluded the regular season with a 13-0 mark.
Carney collected GGC's fourth point of the match with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles. Fernandez picked up her 10th singles win this spring with a 6-0, 6-2 victory on the No. 6 court.
Gatti won by identical 6-4, 6-4 set scores on the No. 4 court before Jovic tallied her eighth singles triumph of the season with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles.
"It was an incredible day celebrating our four amazing seniors. Stephanie has never lost a singles match at GGC. That achievement will be very hard to beat. Iryna took care of business. The seniors have been the foundation of the team, and today it really showed. They definitely love being Grizzlies," said Head Coach
Hannah Keeling.
Georgia Gwinnett College is scheduled to compete in the 2024 NAIA National Championship from May 14-18 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama.
