Women’s Tennis Sweeps Another Ranked Opponent

The No. 1-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College women's tennis team swept its second straight nationally ranked opponent to close out the Grizzly Spring Break Invitational, defeating No. 17 Indiana Wesleyan University by a 7-0 score Friday afternoon at the GGC Tennis Facility.

The Grizzlies (11-0) quickly won the doubles point behind a pair of 6-1 triumphs on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts. The team of senior Angel Carney and sophomore Versace Gatti collected the first triumph at No. 3 doubles. Then, the junior tandem of Justine Lespes and Carol Mora clinched the point on the No. 2 court. Seniors Stephanie Fernandez and Iryna Lysykh rounded out the strong doubles play with a 6-3 victory at the top of the lineup.

The hosts won all six singles matches in straight sets.

Lysykh forehandLysykh gave GGC a 2-0 dual match lead with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Gatti picked up a 6-0, 6-2 triumph on the No. 4 court before senior Teodora Jovic won by identical 6-1 set scores for the team's match-clinching fourth point.

Lespes remained undefeated on the spring season with an impressive 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles.

Fernandez recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win on the No. 6 court before Mora rounded out the winners with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph at No. 5 singles.

GGC won both of its Grizzly Spring Break Invitational matches, defeating No. 10 William Carey University (Mississippi) by a 5-0 score on Thursday. The team has won all six of its home matches in 2024.
