Softball Drops Two One-Run Road Games

A pair of one-run victories gave the No. 17-ranked Middle Georgia State University softball team a midweek sweep against No. 3 Georgia Gwinnett College by 1-0 and 2-1 scores Tuesday afternoon in Cochran, Georgia.

Alexis Cosgrove hit a game-tying home run in the seventh inning and later added a sacrifice fly in the ninth frame to plate the winning run in the second game to complete the doubleheader sweep.

The Knights (14-6) scored an unearned run off an RBI double from Gabbie Haas in the third inning for the only run scored in the opener.

GGC (16-7) took a 1-0 lead during the nightcap in the top of the seventh inning after junior Lindzie Owen hit a run-scoring single to left field.

Junior pitcher Annalise Jarvis struck out 13 batters in the second game. Classmate Kailyn Berry scattered five hits inside the pitching circle in Tuesday's opener.

GGC took a 1-0 lead in the top of the seventh inning during the nightcap, but Middle Georgia State responded by hitting a game-tying home run in the bottom half of the seventh inning. Then, Alexis Cosgrove hit a sacrifice fly that scored the winning run in the ninth inning.
