The top-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College women's tennis team held serve on its home court to defeat No. 10 SCAD Savannah (Georgia) by a 4-0 score Sunday afternoon in closing out the Grizzly Invitational at the GGC Tennis Facility.
The Grizzlies (7-0) used strong doubles play to set the tone for the match. The No. 1 pairing of seniors
Stephanie Fernandez and
Iryna Lysykh secured the point with a 6-4 victory to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage in the match. That came after senior
Angel Carney and sophomore
Versace Gatti registered a 6-2 triumph on the No. 3 court.
The hosts got two singles points fairly quickly with straight-set victories as Lysykh won 6-0, 6-2 on the No. 2 court and Lespes, the nation's top-ranked singles player, posted a 6-3, 6-2 win on the No. 1 court.

GGC's fourth point also came in straight sets as Carney closed out the No. 5 singles match with a 6-4 score in the second set. She captured six of the seven games during the opening set.
Georgia Gwinnett College swept all three matches in the Grizzly Invitational, defeating No. 14 University of the Cumberlands (Kentucky) 7-0 and Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) 4-0 on Friday.
"Matches against SCAD Savannah are always going to be good and competitive. I'm happy with how the girls competed today. Winning the doubles point gave us momentum going into singles. Iryna played one of her best matches of this season. It's great to see her picking up momentum," said Head Coach

Georgia Gwinnett College is scheduled to play No. 4 Southeastern University (Florida) on Thursday, February 22, at Macon, Georgia, starting at 11 a.m.
