The No. 1-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College men's tennis team used strong singles play to sweep SCAD Savannah (Georgia) by a 5-0 score Sunday afternoon at the GGC Tennis Facility. GGC completed the Grizzly Invitational by not dropping a point across three matches during the weekend.
Senior
Alex Gurmendi won his 71st career singles match in spring dual matches, recording a 6-4, 6-3 triumph on the No. 1 court. His victory was the match-clinching point.
Sophomore
Santiago Villarruel started the singles momentum with a 6-0, 6-2 victory on the No. 6 court. Senior
Charly Zick gave the hosts a 3-0 lead with a straight-set win at No. 3 singles. Zick won six of the seven games in the opening set before closing out the match in a second-set tiebreaker by a 7-5 score.

Sophomore
Luis Francisco Sampedro rounded out the strong singles play with a 7-5, 6-1 victory on the No. 4 court.
The Grizzlies (7-0) registered a pair of 6-2 triumphs in doubles to grab the early lead in the match. The Gurmendi-Villarruel pairing on the No. 1 court secured the first win of the afternoon. Senior
Aleksa Ciric and Francisco Sampedro were then victorious on the No. 3 court to secure the doubles point.
The Grizzlies defeated No. 11 University of the Cumberlands (Kentucky) 7-0 and No. 20 Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) 5-0 on Friday.
"Our goal was to finish the week with our strongest performance and I feel like we definitely did that in singles. I'm happy that Alex got the clinching point. He is a huge leader on the team," said Head Coach

Georgia Gwinnett College is scheduled to play No. 7 Southeastern University (Florida) on Thursday, February 22, at Macon, Georgia, starting at 11 a.m.
