Men’s Tennis Picks Up 4-0 Win over Southeastern

The NAIA's No. 1-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College men's tennis team extended its winning streak to 25 consecutive matches with a dominating 4-0 victory against No. 7 Southeastern University (Florida) in a top-10 showdown Thursday afternoon on neutral courts in Macon, Georgia.

Strong singles play paced the Grizzlies (8-0) in the match as senior Aleksa Ciric, the NAIA's No. 2-ranked player, collected a 6-1, 6-1 victory against No. 45 Diego Menendez Vina on the No. 2 court. That triumph gave GGC an early 2-0 lead.

Sophomore Luis Francisco Sampedro then captured six of seven games in the second set to close out his No. 4 singles match against Piero Fernandez, winning by 6-4, 6-1 scores for GGC's third point of the dual match.

Senior Alex Gurmendi, ranked No. 10 among NAIA singles players, secured the match victory with a 6-0, 7-6 win against No. 28 Bruno Pessoa on the No. 1 court.

In doubles, the Grizzlies picked up a pair of impressive victories to win the doubles point. Seniors Julius Kaufmann and Mihailo Radosavljevic earned a 6-1 triumph on the No. 2 court. That was followed by a 6-2 victory by the NAIA's top-ranked doubles pairing of sophomore Santiago Villarruel and Gurmendi on the No. 1 court.

"We had a lot of energy after the warmup and we felt good taking the court. It was windy and we played a clean match. I trust my doubles partner and am playing with a lot of confidence right now," said Kaufmann.

COACH'S CORNER
"It was great to get on the road and have a travel match with the team. It was a very solid performance in doubles from start to finish against a good top-10 team. Aleksa's performance in singles today was outstanding," said Head Coach Hannah Keeling.
