Georgia Gwinnett College student-athletes had more success in the classroom during the spring semester, helping the Office of Athletics post its highest yearly grade point average ever for the 2022-23 academic year.
Eighty-three student-athletes were named to the Director of Athletics Spring Honor Roll, including 30 on the President's List for having achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester. An additional 18 student-athletes were named to the Dean's List, with GPAs between 3.6-3.99.
All the department's student-athletes combined to post an all-time high 3.18 GPA for the entire academic year, after achieving a 3.14 department GPA for the spring semester.
Five of GGC's six teams had 3.18 or higher team GPAs for this spring. Softball led the way with a 3.49 team GPA for the spring semester and a 3.50 team GPA for the 2022-23 school year. Twenty softball players were named to the Director of Athletics Spring Honor Roll.
Also, three GGC student-athletes earned Academic All-America team honors this spring, with tennis player
Tereza Koplova and softball player
Sydney Pelaez being named Academic All-Americans of the Year in their sports.
Stephanie Fernandez was a first Academic All-American team selection in women's tennis.
Besides these classroom successes, all four of the department's spring sports teams advanced to the NAIA National Championship final sites. Men's and women's tennis teams brought home NAIA national championship red banners, while baseball and softball team won Continental Athletic Conference tournaments before making NAIA World Series appearances.
