After a scoreless first half, the No. 3-ranked University of the Cumberlands (Kentucky) got on the scoreboard twice during the opening 78 seconds of the second half and then pulled away for a 5-2 victory against the Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team on Friday afternoon at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.
The Grizzlies limited the Patriots to three shots on goal in the first half. However, the intensity picked up over the course of the next 45 minutes. Carola Fontan finally broke through with a goal in the first 42 seconds of the period. Then, in the matter of the next 36 seconds, Jayden Boelter scored her 13th goal of the season to give Cumberlands a 2-0 lead. Boelter setup Fontan's goal.
Another tally by Nicole Araujo in the 57th minute stretched the lead to 3-0 before Boelter netted her second goal of the match, this one coming in the 61st minute. Kallen Fuller scored off a corner kick in the 86th minute to cap the Patriots' scoring for the afternoon.

GGC responded with two goals in the final four minutes of the match. Freshman
Gabriela Rosas buried a shot into the net from close distance for her first collegiate goal. The scoring chance came following a right crossing pass by fellow freshman
Cecilie Povlsen in the 87th minute.

Aurora Miglio scored off a rebound from two initial shots by sophomore
Saga Andersson.
Eight of the Grizzlies' 12 shots in the match were on goal. Cumberlands registered 23 shots in the victory.
After being held scoreless for the first half, the nationally ranked Patriots quickly seized momentum of the match with two goals across the first two minutes of the second half. Jayden Boelter scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Patriots' offensive attack.
