Men’s Soccer Alum Jack Gurr Signs Professional Contract with Atlanta United 2

Jack Gurr becomes the first former player to sign a professional contract
Former Georgia Gwinnett College men's soccer standout Jack Gurr became the first former Grizzly to sign a professional contract, taking his playing skills to the Atlanta United 2 team, the organization announced Thursday, Dec. 5.

Gurr played four seasons with GGC, from 2014-17, and holds the program career leader with 22 assists and is second all-time with 142 shots – accumulated in 71 matches.

The Atlanta United 2 plays in the USL League 1 and is affiliated with the Atlanta United, the 2018 Major League Soccer champions.

Gurr headshot"I'm so proud and happy for Jack. In his four years within our program, he grew and developed as a person and player," said Head Coach Steve DeCou. "I know every time he puts on the five stripes he'll give his all for the (Atlanta United 2) club. This also shows our current and future players what's possible, making it to the pros, by playing at GGC."

Gurr, a native of Newcastle, England, scored 14 goals and tallied 50 points, both ranking fifth in program history. He earned first All-Association of Independent Institutions team honors during his junior and senior seasons. GGC advanced to the NAIA national tournament in three of Gurr's four seasons, with the 2017 team reaching the quarterfinal round of the NAIA tournament – the deepest postseason advancement in program history.

"Jack is a determined young player and we expect him to help push our club further in 2020," stated Atlanta United 2 Head Coach Stephen Glass in the team's announcement. "His work rate, quality on the ball and character stood out to us, and we are pleased to add him to our group."

Georgia Gwinnett College went 13-4-3 and reached the Round of 16 of the NAIA national tournament during the 2019 season.
