They may have been playing their third match in the past six days, but Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer players were crisp and ready to take advantage of their opponent's mistakes in earning a 2-1 victory against Emmanuel College (Ga.) on Wednesday evening at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.
Senior
Lauren Moss netted the game-winning goal in the 29th minute as the No. 19-ranked Grizzlies (7-2) improved to 5-1 at home this fall. The team also collected five victories in seven matches during a successful September.
GGC has not lost consecutive games since Sept. 1, 2017 – a span of 26 matches.
Moss broke a 1-1 deadlock when she intercepted a pass near the top of the 18-yard box. Her shot evaded the opposing goalkeeper to give the hosts a pivotal 2-1 advantage.

Meanwhile, GGC's defense would allow only one shot the rest of the way. Overall, the Grizzlies outshot Emmanuel by a commanding 28-to-2 margin and had 11 corner kicks in the match.
Freshman
Victoria Bischof scored her fourth goal of the season when she found the back of the net in the fifth minute. Senior
Nicole Rodriguez set up the early scoring opportunity.
Emmanuel (3-3) squared the match in the 15th minute on a free kick goal from Lindsay Lee.
Junior GGC goalkeeper
Sophie Hoare registered her first victory of the season, playing all 90 minutes in the match.
Coach's Corner
"Our program has certain core principles. Our commitment tonight was to do better with the speed of play and the number of touches. We did significantly better in that area. We continue to struggle putting the ball into the goal. I'm pleased with the quality of play, but disappointed that we couldn't get an additional third goal. Anything can happen in a 2-1 game," said
Dr. Mike Giuliano.
Turning Point
Senior
Lauren Moss drilled a shot from nearly 20 yards away from the goal after intercepting a pass in the attacking half of the pitch. Moss's goal put the Grizzlies back on top 2-1, a lead that they would maintain for the rest of the match.
