Keeping Her Head in the Game

Senior Stina Andersson had her head in the game, literally, as the No. 16-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team scored a 2-0 victory at Life University on Wednesday evening in Marietta, Ga.

Andersson broke the scoreless tie by using the top of her head to deflect a crossing pass from classmate Maddy Keenan into the back of the net in the 48th minute.

Then senior Melissa Hanken made a dazzling play to beat a Life defender to score an insurance goal in the 83rd minute.

GGC (8-2) recorded its seventh shutout of the season, with junior goalkeeper Elisa Randel making one save in the 90-minute match. The team held a commanding 14-to-3 shot advantage in the match.

"It was a real fulfilling match and probably one of my best feelings of this season. This game had upset written all over it. I'm proud of the way the girls competed. Melissa had a great effort to get the important second goal," said Dr. Mike Giuliano.
 
Turning Point
A free kick early in the second half resulted in the Grizzlies' first goal, breaking a scoreless tie. Senior Lauren Moss played a ball down the right sideline to classmate Maddy Keenan, who had a crossing pass to senior Stina Andersson. She used her head to deflect the ball into the open net in the 48th minute.
