Women’s Soccer Has First Home Loss

The Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team lost for the first time at the Grizzly Soccer Complex in the 2018 season, dropping a 4-0 decision to No. 7-ranked Martin Methodist College (Tenn.) on Sunday afternoon.

The RedHawks (7-0-1) scored twice in each half to pick up the road victory. The first tally came in the eighth minute from Suzuho Yamasaki. The visitors took a 2-0 lead on a free kick goal from Natsuna Sugishita in the 31st minute.

A goal in the 65th minute and a penalty kick score six minutes later capped the scoring.

GGC attempted 17 shots in the match, including 10 shots on goal. Caitlin Dumond stopped all of those shots in protecting the RedHawks' net.

Senior Lauren Moss and freshman Joy Mertzig each attempted four shots for the Grizzlies. Eight different players registered a shot in the match.
 


Turning Point

After a goal in the early moments of the game, Martin Methodist struck again in the 31st minute to grab a 2-0 lead in the first half. A free kick goal from Natsuna Sugishita was placed into the upper right corner of Georgia Gwinnett College's goal. The RedHawks scored on their first two shots on goal.
