No. 11-ranked Keiser University (Fla.) scored twice in the first 21 minutes as the No. 15 Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team lost 3-0 Sunday afternoon. It marked the first setback for the Grizzlies after five straight victories to begin the season.
Keiser's Matilda Ovenberger had a hat trick with three goals for the Seahawks (6-2). She scored in the 10th and 21st minutes in the first half. She later added another goal in the opening minutes of the second half.
GGC (5-1) has now split its two matches against nationally ranked opponents this season.
Keiser held a 20-to-12 shot edge in the match.
Coach's Corner
"Mistakes are punished more when playing a quality team. We came out very well and they countered with early goals. The better team won. We are going to learn from this and be ready for when we take the field the next time," said Head Coach
Dr. Mike Giuliano.
Turning Point
GGC was controlling possession of play in the early moments of the match. However, Keiser grabbed the lead after its first shot of the match found the back of the net in the 10th minute. It snapped the Grizzlies' scoreless streak to begin the season to 450 minutes and nine seconds.
