Box Score 2 The Georgia Gwinnett College softball players hit an inside-the-park home run and rounded the bases on a conventional homer as part of a 22-run offensive performance during Saturday's doubleheader sweep of Talladega College at the Grizzly Softball Complex.
The Grizzlies (33-2) picked up 13-4 and 9-1 victories in two five-inning games to run the team's winning streak to 14 games.
After falling behind 3-0 in the top of the first inning, the hosts stormed back with a five-run inning to take the lead in the bottom of the frame. Junior Tori Robinson legged out an inside-the-park homer to score two runs and tie the contest. Sophomore Anya Vandersip followed with a run-scoring single to give the Grizzlies the lead. She then scored on a double steal attempt.
GGC had a seven-run fourth inning to break open the contest. Sophomore Sydney Willhite hit a two-run double during the frame. Robinson added a triple to bring home freshman Maegan Harden. A single from junior Aubree Cox scored Robinson.
In the second game, the Grizzlies scored runs in all five innings. The big hit in the game came off the bat from junior Brianna Fickes with a two-run home run in the third inning.
Cox gave the Grizzlies a 2-1 lead in the second inning with a run-scoring double. Freshman Holly Janco followed a few batters later with a triple to score Cox. GGC scored two runs in the fourth inning and got a run-scoring single from freshman Piper Wagner in the fifth inning.
Turning Point
After allowing three unearned runs in the top of the first inning, the Grizzlies responded with a five-run first inning of the opener to regain the momentum. GGC tied the game, 3-3, on a two-run inside-the-park home run from junior Tori Robinson. The team managed to score two more runs later in the inning.
