Box Score The Georgia Gwinnett College baseball team scored at least one run in five consecutive innings to defeat St. Ambrose University (Iowa) 10-2 Saturday evening from the Grizzly Baseball Complex.
GGC (23-4) hit two home runs in the game and won its fourth consecutive game.
The Grizzlies opened the scoring with a two-run home run from senior Tony Salvaggio in the third inning. A sacrifice fly one inning later gave the hosts a 4-0 advantage.
Then, freshman Nick Barnes delivered a two-run single in the fifth inning. GGC pushed across a single run in the sixth inning before junior Jordan Tylski connected on a three-run home run in the seventh inning.
The team also got consistent performances on the mound. Sophomore starting pitcher Hunter Dollander allowed just one hit over six scoreless innings to improve to 4-1 on the season. Senior Nick Andrews, junior Richard Triplet and senior Taylor Folsom each contributed one inning on the mound to secure the victory.
GGC outhit the Fighting Bees 10-to-2 in the contest. Barnes collected two hits while the remaining eight hits were evenly distributed throughout the lineup.
Turning Point
Waiting until the third inning for the team's first hit of the game, senior Tony Salvaggio delivered a two-run home run over the left field fence for his first home run of the season. The two-run homer gave GGC a lead it would never relinquish.
