Box Score 2 The Georgia Gwinnett College softball team recorded a split of a road midweek doubleheader at Truett McConnell University, winning the opener 7-2 before the Bears answered with a 4-1 victory in Tuesday's nightcap.
Freshman Piper Wagner went 3-for-3, with two runs batted in, and sophomore Sydney Willhite collected three hits to lead GGC's 12-hit offensive attack in the first game.
Sophomore Jordin Englar tossed a complete game in the pitching circle.
GGC (19-2) took a 3-0 lead following a two-run third inning. Junior Tori Robinson connected on her third home run of the season during a two-run fifth inning.
In the nightcap, Truett McConnell took advantage of Georgia Gwinnett College defensive errors in the first and sixth innings to score two runs. All four runs scored by the Bears (14-8) were unearned. The game concluded a seven-game road swing for the Grizzlies.
Turning Point
In the opener, the Grizzlies stuck for two runs in the third inning to break the game open. A RBI double by sophomore Sydney Willhite to right field was the big blow in the inning. The early run support helped sophomore Jordin Englar pick up the victory in the pitching circle.
