NAIA No. 1-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College men's tennis earned a commanding 8-1 victory against NCAA Division II No. 3 Lynn University (Fla.) Saturday afternoon in the Grizzly Spring Break Invitational at the GGC Tennis Facility.
GGC (18-0) has now won 73 consecutive matches and defeated six NCAA Division II teams this spring.
The Grizzlies got off to a strong start in doubles, winning 24 of the 32 games. The duo of freshman Serge Becerra and sophomore Sergio Valinotti gave the hosts their first point of the match with an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Senior Gilad Berman and junior Ayed Zatar earned an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, while junior Rafael Coutinho and sophomore Federico Herrera Duran rounded out the winners in doubles with an 8-2 triumph on the No. 1 court.
In singles, Coutinho won by identical 6-2 set scores to give GGC a 4-0 lead. Herrera Duran clinched the team victory with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 5 singles. Then, sophomore Mika Kosonen won 12 of 15 games at No. 6 singles and Becerra was a 6-2, 7-5 winner at No. 4 singles.
GGC won the first seven points of the match. Berman rounded out the winners for GGC with a 7-5, 6-3 victory on the No. 1 court.
