The names may change, but the winning doesn't for the Georgia Gwinnett College men's tennis program.
Three players had successful debuts for the Grizzlies, contributing to a dominating 9-0 victory Thursday at the University of South Carolina Aiken in the 2018 spring opener.
GGC has now won 58 consecutive dual matches, the longest active winning streak in all of collegiate sports. Three wins have been added to the streak in the 2017-18 season – all by shutouts.
Freshman Valentino Caratini earned a pair of victories in his collegiate debut. He teamed with sophomore Sergio Valinotti to win at No. 3 doubles by an 8-3 score. Then, he won eight of 10 games on the No. 6 singles court.
Junior Ayed Zatar combined with senior Gilad Berman to win a hard-fought No. 1 doubles match, 9-7. Zatar recorded the match-clinching point with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at No. 2 singles.
Freshman Serge Becerra picked up an 8-3 triumph at No. 4 singles to round out the players registering their first victory for GGC.
Berman was victorious in straight sets at No. 1 singles, while junior Rafael Coutinho recorded a 6-4, 7-5 victory on the No. 3 singles court. Sophomore Federico Herrera Duran rounded out the singles winners with a 9-7 victory on the No. 5 court. Coutinho and Herrera Duran picked up an 8-5 win while playing at No. 2 doubles.
