No. 24 Women's Soccer Uses Fast Start to Down Faulkner 5-0

Box Score

Scoring three goals in the first 25 minutes paved the way for the No. 24-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team to a 5-0 road victory against Faulkner University Friday evening.

GGC (5-3-1) got an own goal and a tally from senior Dominique Fletcher in the first 13 minutes of action. Junior Lauren Moss capped the team's fast start with a goal in the 25th minute. The team was playing its first match after receiving a national ranking in program history.

"We played very hard from the beginning to the end. We know that teams are going to get up to play a nationally ranked team because that is what we were doing just a few weeks ago," said Head Coach Dr. Mike Giuliano.

Junior Ana Gonzalez scored a goal in the 63rd minute. She also registered assists on Fletcher's two goals. Junior Kimmy Angelone found the back of the net for the first time this season in the 70th minute to round out the goal scorers.

Friday's victory extended GGC's unbeaten streak to six matches, tying the program record set during the 2014 season. The Grizzlies have won five matches during the streak.

The contest also began a six-match road swing across five states.

"We got several players into the match and they played a lot of minutes," noted Giuliano, whose team plays three matches over the course of six days. "We have played outstanding defensively all season, but now we are starting to click offensively. The work rate is increasing with each match."

Turning Point

The Grizzlies turned their second corner kick of the match into a goal to grab the early lead. Junior Ana Gonzalez dribbled down the goal line before sending a ball toward the six-yard box. A Faulkner defender got a piece of the ball just before Fletcher to send it into the goal to give the visitors the early advantage.
