Top-Seeded Men's Soccer Advances to A.I.I. Soccer Championship Match

The Georgia Gwinnett College men's soccer team opened postseason play with a 1-0 victory against the University of Jamestown in Friday's semifinal round of the 2017 Association of Independent Institutions men's soccer championships at the Grizzly Soccer Complex.

The nationally ranked team has advanced to Saturday's final match, with the victor earning a spot in the NAIA national tournament.

After playing a scoreless first half, the top-seeded Grizzlies found the back of the net in the 52nd minute on an own goal. Freshman Amin Saheb Ettabaa attempted a shot from the edge of the 18-yard box. The shot deflected off a Jamestown defender.

GGC (11-2-2) held a 16-to-5 shot advantage over the 90 minutes of action. Senior Jack Gurr attempted a match-high five shots.

The Grizzlies registered their third straight shutout. The GGC defense held Jamestown to two shots on goal.

The team has won three of the last four A.I.I. Men's Soccer Championships.

Turning Point

Early in the second half, GGC applied offensive pressure to get the first goal of a match. Freshman Amin Saheb Ettabaa took a shot from the edge of the 18-yard box that deflected off a Jamestown defender into the back of the net for an own goal. The Grizzlies took advantage of the break to keep the Jimmies from squaring the match.
