Late Goal Lifts No. 5 Men's Soccer Past Thomas

Box Score

Freshman Michael Weber found the back of the net in the 77th minute for the Georgia Gwinnett College men's soccer team's only tally in a hard-fought victory against Thomas University Tuesday evening in a neutral site at Columbus State University.

The Grizzlies (9-1-1) extended their winning ways to three consecutive matches.

Weber scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season after receiving a pass from senior Samuel Sampaio Gomes in the right corner. It was one of the team's five shots in second half.

Freshman goalkeeper Matija Gligorovic made four saves, including two in the final five minutes of the first half, to keep Thomas off the scoreboard.

GGC registered its fourth shutout of the season.

Turning Point

Late in the match with both teams scoreless, the Grizzlies capitalized on a scoring chance to grab the lead. In the 77th minute, senior Samuel Sampaio Gomes fed Weber a pass from the right corner. Weber took a couple of touches before drilling a shot from the six-yard box for the goal. It proved to be the game-winning tally.
