Grizzlies Blank Auburn-Montgomery, Win Third Straight

Box Score

The Georgia Gwinnett men's soccer team captured its third win in-a-row on Saturday evening, shutting out NCAA Division II foe Auburn-Montgomery in the Grizzlies' 2-0 road victory.

Saturday's win was the sixth match in 2016 that the Grizzlies have not allowed a goal.

"Tonight was a great performance by the boys," said GGC head coach Steve DeCou.  "Due to travel issues, we arrived in Montgomery an hour prior to the match.  We could have used it as a crutch for a poor performance, but the guys went out and put in one of the best performances of the year.  We'll enjoy this victory and shift gears starting Monday."

The Grizzlies (6-3-2) struck first in the 16th minute as a cross from the right side of the box by Cameron St. Prix Mitchell connected with Jumar Oakley who ripped a one-timer into the net for the 1-0 GGC lead.

In the second half, Georgia Gwinnett scored an insurance goal in the 64th minute when a header by Ellis Husband deflected off the Auburn-Montgomery goalkeeper's save attempt and was poked in by sophomore defender Andrew White on the rebound.

GGC's goalkeeper Lewis Sharpe tallied one save in the shutout victory, improving his goals per game average to 0.96 on the season.  To date, Sharpe has collected 237 career saves in just under 6,000 minutes in goal during his four seasons as a Grizzly.

Georgia Gwinnett is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 15 when the Grizzlies travel to North Carolina to face Montreat (N.C.) at 3:00 p.m.
