Box Score The Georgia Gwinnett men's soccer team posted its fourth shutout of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Tennessee Wesleyan, which is receiving votes in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll, 2-0.
"I'm really proud of the boys' performance today," stated GGC head coach Steve DeCou. "Overall, we were tactically sound. When you hold a team like Tennessee Wesleyan to two shots, the team has done its job. Great finishes today by Ellis [Husband] and Samuel [Sampaio Gomes]. We'll enjoy this victory and get ready for the next challenge."
Georgia Gwinnett (5-3-2) struck first in the 18th minute when junior midfielder Jack Gurr lifted a corner kick to the far post, connecting with Ellis Husband who placed a header into the lower left-hand corner of the net. Husband's score was his first career goal as a Grizzly.
In 66th minute, GGC scored an insurance goal to take the 2-0 advantage over the Bulldogs. Junior forward Samuel Sampaio Gomes received a long ball from senior midfielder Callum Mordey and split three TWU defenders before flicking a touch past the Bulldog keeper's reach, rolling the ball into the lower right-hand corner of the net.
The GGC defensive backline only allowed two shots in the match while the Grizzlies had nine shot attempts, landing five on frame.
In goalkeeper Lewis Sharpe's fourth shutout of the season, the Englishman collected his 41st save of the year, bringing his career total to 236.
With the victory, the Grizzlies are now 4-0 all-time against Tennessee Wesleyan.
During pre-game and halftime festivities, the Grizzlies recognized Georgia Gwinnett's military veterans and active duty service men and women.

Georgia Gwinnett is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 8 when the Grizzlies travel to Montgomery, Ala., to face NCAA Division II foe Auburn-Montgomery at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.
