MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - It had been 23 months since the Georgia Gwinnett men's tennis team had lost a match, and it was another highly-rated NCAA Division II team who brought the school's record 27-match winning streak to an end on Sunday as third-ranked Barry dealt the Grizzlies a 6-3 loss at Buccaneer Tennis Center.

The top-ranked Grizzlies, which dropped to 5-1 on the year, had not lost since a 6-3 decision to then-No. 8 Columbus State on April 5, 2013.

Barry improved to 8-0.

It was not a match without drama in Miami as all but one singles match went the distance, beginning with Jordan Cox, who entered the match unbeaten and ranked second in the NAIA, but he met an equal in DII's No. 4 Ahmed Triki, falling 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.

At No. 3 singles, seventh-ranked Matias Hatem was handed his first-ever dual singles loss as No. 48 Kevin Sielmann moved past him in 7-5, 0-6, 6-3 fashion, and on line five, No. 43 Connor Clements fell 6-1, 0-6, 11-9 to Fabian Pronnet.

Kevin Konfederak reclaimed a point for the men, winning 7-6, 7-6 over Fabian Groetsch at No. 2, and 17th-ranked Lachlan McPhee won 6-7, 6-3, 10-8 vs. No. 26 Nico Dreer on Court 4.

Tony Licata fell in the only other singles match, dropping a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 decision to Dominik Haider.

The Grizzlies fell behind early in doubles, losing two of three with the Argentinian duo of Hatem and Konfederak picking up an 8-5 victory at No. 3. McPhee and Morland lost 8-4 at No. 1, and the duo of Clements and Cox dropped an 8-6 nailbiter at line two.

GGC will return to action on Tuesday at No. 9 Lynn.

NOTES: GGC's 27-match winning streak was the longest of any sport at GGC ... GGC is 37-2 all-time with the last loss coming to Columbus State in 2013 ... Matias Hatem is now 22-1 all-time in dual singles play ... The Grizzlies are 8-2 all-time vs. NCAA Division II foes and 2-1 this season, beating No. 31 USC Aiken and No. 8 Lander ... GGC had only played one opponent from the state of Florida in its history, beating Embry-Riddle 5-1 to hoist the national championship trophy last year.
