Box Score

LAWRENCEVILLE - Following a history-making day from Ty Abbott on Friday, a fellow senior decided to etch his own name in the school record books on Saturday as Arsenio Watlington led the fifth-ranked Georgia Gwinnett to a 7-5 victory over visiting Ohio State Lima at Grizzly Baseball Complex.

After leading off the first with a double to center, Watlington quickly swiped third for his school-record-setting 34th stolen base of the year. The St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, native currently leads the nation in the category, but his day was far from over as he went on to finish the with a rare inside-the-park home run and a pair of runs batted in, securing a four-game sweep over the Barons for the now 27-5 Grizzlies.

"This was a great weekend for us, and the guys have done a great job of staying within themselves and playing baseball the right way," GGC Head Coach Brad Stromdahl said. "They've executed well, and we're fortunate to be in this position this far into the season. Now we have to go on the road and learn how to win games as a visitor. I'm looking forward to the challenge."

Abbott, who set the all-time RBI record on Friday, was held relatively quiet for the first time in the series, ending 1-for-3 with a score, and the trio of Kyler Timmerman, Michael Hodorowski and Jereid Woods combined for six hits as the team picked up 10 for the game, including seven that went for extra bases.

Watlington went on to score on a Marcus McCorkle sacrifice fly in the first, and an Abbott double and Timmerman triple brought home another as the Grizzlies claimed a quick 2-0 advantage.

However, the lead was short-lived as an error and three hits saw the Barons tie things up quickly in the ensuing half inning, but Hodorowski led off the bottom of the frame with a triple and would score on a Woods groundout to make it 3-2.

McCorkle led off the third with a walk and later scored on a Timmerman single to restore the two-run edge, and Watlington's homer capped a three-run fourth as the Grizzlies grabbed the 7-2 lead.

Five different Barons registered a hit a three-run sixth to bring the game back into question, but that would be all of the damage the visitors could muster as Joseph Boatright, Sheldon Connor and Christian Turnipseed surrendered just one hit over the final three frames as the Green and Gray picked up a seventh consecutive victory.

Jeremy Holcomb earned the win on the mound for GGC, allowing four hits and a pair of unearned runs to move to 2-1 on the year, and Turnipseed notched his fifth save.

The Grizzlies will return to action on Tuesday as they hit the road for second-ranked Faulkner.

NOTES: GGC has never lost a home three- or four-game series ... The Grizzlies carry a 74-20 all-time mark in Lawrenceville ... GGC is 44-13 all-time in the month of March ... GGC has out-scored OSU Lima 162-30 over the course of the 11 games that the two schools have played.
