LAWRENCEVILLE - With people tuning in from around the world, the Georgia Gwinnett men's tennis team dominated visiting Cumberlands at GGC Tennis Facility on Tuesday afternoon, handing the Patriots a 9-0 loss in the first-ever tennis broadcast on the Grizzly Digital Network.
The match marked the fifth straight victory for the Grizzly men as the team moved to 10-1 on the year. Following Tuesday's result, GGC was once again voted as the No. 1 team in the nation in the NAIA Top 25 poll.
UC dropped to 1-6.
The doubles round once again proved successful for GGC as all three won for the third consecutive match, beginning with the top-ranked tandem of Jordan Cox and Connor Clements breezing to an 8-0 win over Dev Sivam and Ty Smith. The other two matches would be decided in 8-2 fashion as the team of Matias Hatem and Luke Morland beat Eduardo Cabrera and Daniel Fraser, and the duo of Lachlan McPhee and Kevin Konfederak picked up the win over Marc Homs Sonou and Joel Guillen.
The dominance continued in singles play as Konfederak, McPhee and Morland all won in 6-0, 6-0 fashion over Homs Sonou, McPhee and Yusuke Matsuoka, respectively, at lines two, four and six.
No. 5 Konfederak and No. 40 McPhee account for just two of five ranked players for the Grizzlies, and two others would also win handily as No. 2 Cox picked up a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Cabrera and 42nd-ranked Clements earned a 6-0, 6-1 decision vs. Fraser.
Hatem, the nation's sixth-ranked player, did not participate in singles.
Tony Licata rounded out the day's results with a 6-0, 6-2 victory vs. Adrian Elduque.
