ST. LEO, Fla. - The top-ranked Georgia Gwinnett men's tennis team picked up a second win over a top 10 team in NCAA Division II in as many days as the Grizzlies rolled to a 5-1 decision over No. 8 St. Leo on Wednesday at St. Leo Tennis Complex.

"Overall, this was a very good week for us," GGC Head Coach Chase Hodges said. "This was a big trip and we played three of the best teams in DII. We were a bit unfortunate to lose a tight one with Barry, but the guys really responded and took care of business the last two days. When the team plays that way, it's going to be pretty tough to beat us."

The match, which featured a 90-minute rain delay during singles play, proved competitive early on, but the Grizzlies would grab hold in singles play to improve to 7-1 on the season. Meanwhile St. Leo, a squad that boasts of a 7-2 victory over NAIA No. 2 team Embry Riddle this season, fell to 8-3.

The Grizzlies got things started with a strong doubles round as the team of Jordan Cox and Connor Clements, fresh off of knocking off the top-ranked team in Division II a day ago, earned an 8-5 line two victory over Egor Panyushkin and Netanel Alcabas. At the third spot, Kevin Konfederak teamed up with Lachlan McPhee for an 8-4 victory over Fons Verberne and Guillaume Vanelven, but GGC wouldn't be as fortunate at No. 1 as Matias Hatem and Luke Morland were unable to hold on to a late lead, falling 9-8 to Alex Theiler and Bruno Sisti.

In singles, Hatem, the No. 7 singles player in all of NAIA, continued to impress with a 6-2, 6-1 victory vs. Alcabas at No. 3, and 43rd-ranked Clements put the Green and Gray a point away from clenching with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Vanelven. Konfederak clinched the match, returning from the rain delay to hold on for a 6-3, 7-6 win over Theiler to secure the match.
