BOCA RATON, Fla. - It was another difficult task for the Georgia Gwinnett men's tennis team on Tuesday, but the top-ranked Grizzlies bounced back from their first loss in nearly two calendar years with a 5-2 decision over ninth-ranked Lynn of NCAA Division II at Perper Tennis Complex.

"After that loss to Barry, the guys came out and played extremely well, and now our goal is to start another streak," GGC Head Coach Chase Hodges said. "This is a huge win for us to go on the road vs. a top 10 DII team, and when the team plays as well as it did today, I think we can play with any team in the country."

Sunday's loss to Barry snapped a 27-match winning streak.

The Grizzlies, which improved to 6-1 on the year, built their momentum in doubles play as the tandem of Jordan Cox and Connor Clements registered their biggest win of the season, beating DII's top-ranked tandem of Daniel Riggs and Paolo Volpicelli by a score of 8-5.

"That's just a huge win for them, but our doubles as a whole was big today," Hodges said. "Connor and Jordan are a very good team, and they can beat anybody on a given day, and this should be an even bigger confidence builder for them."

In the other two matches, the Argentinian combo of Kevin Konfederak and Matias Hatem won 8-3 over Alessio Iannozzi and Fernando Rivas, and the team of Lachlan McPhee and Luke Morland fell 8-6 to Mehdi Laalej and Pavel Mojha.

In singles, Konfederak was dealt his first career loss, falling 6-0, 6-2 to 23rd-ranked Riggs at No. 1, but Hatem picked up the slack by returning to win column with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Rivas on line three to make it 3-2.

On Court 2, Cox bounced back from a loss with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 come-from-behind victory to beat Mojha, and McPhee clinched the victory with a 7-6, 6-3 decision over Volpicelli at No. 5.

Clements' fourth-line showdown with Laalej was heading to a decisive third set when the match was clinched, and Tony Licata led 3-2 over Ethan Itzkovitz at No. 6.

GGC will return to action on Wednesday with a trip to eighth-ranked St. Leo to close out the Florida road swing.

NOTES: GGC is 38-2 all-time ... Matias Hatem is now 23-1 all-time in dual singles play ... The Grizzlies are 9-2 all-time vs. NCAA Division II foes and 3-1 this season, previously beating No. 31 USC Aiken and No. 8 Lander ... GGC had only played one opponent from the state of Florida in its history prior to this week's trip, beating Embry-Riddle 5-1 to hoist the national championship trophy last year.
