LAWRENCEVILLE - The top-ranked Georgia Gwinnett men's tennis team took a business-like approach to its first match of a busy opening weekend on Friday afternoon, sweeping past in-state foe Point in 9-0 fashion at GGC Tennis Facility.
"I feel like we got off to a good start in doubles, and it just kind of carried over for us into singles," GGC Head Coach Chase Hodges said. "Everyone found their groove in singles, and the guys just took over from there. It was a great start to the weekend and the season for us."
Led by a line-up that features four players currently ranked by the ITA, including three in the nation's top 20, the Grizzlies weren't tested much on the day as the team dropped just six games over the six singles matches.

Matias Hatem, the No. 7 singles player in the country, rounded out the top half of the line-up with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 decision over Ben Markowski.
At No. 4 singles, 43rd-ranked Connor Clements picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory of his own vs. Zach Sheeler, and No. 17 Lachlan McPhee earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Andrew Hays in the fifth spot. Tony Licata closed out it out at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-1 showing against Alonso Trevizo.
In doubles, Cox and Clements won 8-2 at the top spot vs. Blanchard and Hewitt, and the Argentinian duo of Hatem and Konfederak picked up an 8-4 victory over Markowski and Trevizo. McPhee and Luke Morland took care of business against Sheeler and Hays at the third line, winning 8-1.
