GGC 8, Emory 1
The third-ranked Georgia Gwinnett men’s tennis team remained unbeaten on the year with an 8-1 win at NCAA Division III No. 7 Emory in Atlanta on Thursday.
The Grizzlies reached 14-0 on the year with the win, snapping the Eagles’ five-match win streak to drop Emory to 12-5.
Georgia Gwinnett earned a 3-0 lead through doubles play before taking singles matches on each of the top five lines.
It was the Grizzlies’ seventh time this season taking at least eight points in a dual match.
“This was a very good performance today,” said Grizzlies head coach Chase Hodges. “Emory is a well-coached team so it was nice to get another victory. I feel like our guys are starting to peak at the right time.”
Matias Hatem’s 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles pushed the sophomore to a perfect 12-0 on the year in singles play. Bruno Tiberti won his 12th match in a 6-0, 7-5 win at number two. Erik Moberg (11-0) remained undefeated by going three sets to take a 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 win.
