The Georgia Gwinnett men’s tennis team will play for the championship of the 2014 Unaffiliated A.I.I./Gulf Coast/Red River/Sooner tennis tournament after quarterfinal and semifinal sweeps on Friday in New Orleans.

The top-seeded and NAIA No. 3 Grizzlies dominated action at the University of New Orleans Tennis Center, claiming a 9-0 victory over eighth-seeded Fisk (Tenn.) in the round of eight before dispatching fourth-seeded Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) by a 7-0 score.

Georgia Gwinnett (16-0) will now face second-seeded and NAIA No. 10 Xavier (11-10) on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT at the XU Tennis Center.

The Grizzlies began Friday in perfect fashion, winning all singles matches in the quarterfinals by a 6-0, 6-0 margin and winning all doubles action, 8-0.

Mark Verryth led GGC on the top line, followed by Bruno Tiberti, Matias Hatem, Erik Moberg, Connor Clements and Tony Kostadinov.

Friday’s semifinal round was not much closer, as the doubles pairs of Luke Morland/Nathan de Veer, Tiberti/Verryth and Clements/Hatem earned a quick 3-0 on OLLU.

Verryth captured a 6-0, 6-2 win at first singles while Tiberti (6-0, 6-1), Clements (6-1, 6-0) and Kostadinov (6-0, 6-1) followed suit for the sweep.

Saturday’s championship marks a rematch between GGC and XU, as the Grizzlies won by a 6-1 decision Feb. 16.
