Grizzlies Take Two from Agnes Scott

The Georgia Gwinnett softball team took 4-3 and 8-0 victories on Tuesday at NCAA Division III Agnes Scott in Decatur, using four RBIs apiece from Haley Thompson and Heaven Hinton.

The Grizzlies have won four straight games and improved to 7-2 overall, while Agnes Scott fell to 5-5.

 

Game One- GGC 4, ASC 3

The Grizzlies built a 4-0 lead with the help of a pair of RBIs from Haley Thompson and held on for a one-run victory in Tuesday’s opening game.

Starter Ashley Beyke picked up her third win of the season, striking out two over four innings before yielding to Kayla Byrom, who pitched three scoreless innings.

Thompson began a two-out rally in the fourth, opening the scoring with a solo home run. Alycia Fields singled and later scored on a single by Marlee Morales as GGC went ahead, 2-0.

An inning later, the Grizzlies doubled their lead as Halley Ingram singled and scored on a hit by Thompson and Heaven Hinton scored on a fielder’s choice.

The Scotties tallied their only runs of the day in the bottom of the fifth, but Byrom allowed GGC to maintain its 4-3 lead the rest of the way.

 

Game Two- GGC 8, ASC 0 (6 Innings)

Heaven Hinton homered and drove in four runs to lead the Grizzlies to their first shutout win of the season in game two.

Byrom improved to 4-1 by striking out six batters over five shutout innings and freshman Chelsi Palazzo tossed the final inning in her debut in the circle to maintain the shutout.

Hinton and Jordyn Fones had a game-high two hits apiece.

The Grizzlies used a defensive error to climb on the board in the third inning.

In the fourth, Fones led off with a triple and Hinton followed with her first home run of the season to make it 3-0.

Thompson’s two-run single added to the GGC lead in the fifth inning. The Grizzlies finished scoring with a three-run sixth that featured a double from Brittany Bruns, an RBI single from Fones and a two-run single by Hinton.

With the wins, the Grizzlies improved to 5-0 on the road.
