Softball Wins Pair at Bryan

The Georgia Gwinnett softball team took care of Bryan College on Saturday in Dayton, Tenn., winning by 7-3 and 7-4 scores to improve to 18-5 on the year.

The Grizzlies improved to 4-0 on the season against the Lions, having taken a pair of games earlier this season in Lawrenceville.

Jordyn Fones led the Grizzlies with five hits on the day as Bryan fell to 14-15 overall.

 

Game One- GGC 7, Bryan 3

A four-run first inning propelled the Grizzlies in the opener, as GGC built a 6-0 lead in the win.

Bryan scored twice in the fifth and once in the sixth but the Grizzlies added a final score in the seventh to pick up the four-run victory.

Fones and Halley Ingram each had two of the Grizzlies’ seven hits, while Marlee Morales drove in two runs.

Kayla Byrom pitched her fifth complete game of the season and improved to 8-1 on the year by scattering nine hits and recording a pair of strikeouts.

 

Game Two- GGC 7, Bryan 4

In a game where each squad belted 12 hits, the Grizzlies were led by three apiece from Fones and Cassidy Littlefield in completing the sweep.

Georgia Gwinnett scored in the opening inning once again, notching two scores and opening a 5-0 lead in the third inning.

The Lions trimmed a 7-2 deficit with a pair of runs in the sixth inning, but Ashley Beyke’s ninth complete game of the year kept the Grizzlies in front down the stretch. Beyke tallied her 10th win of the season.

Haley Thompson and Ashleigh Simmons each had two RBIs for GGC as Thompson and Heaven Hinton finished with two hits apiece.

The Grizzlies are now 11-2 away from home on the year. GGC continues its season Tuesday at Cumberland (Tenn.) with a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
