GGC 8, Coastal Georgia 1
The Georgia Gwinnett men’s tennis team racked up its 10th win of the season by taking out Coastal Georgia, 8-1, in Brunswick, Ga., on Wednesday afternoon.
The fourth-ranked Grizzlies improved to 10-0 by earning their seventh victory over a ranked opponent on the year. The Mariners, who stand 25th in the NAIA, fell to 4-6.
Georgia Gwinnett was pushed to a trio of three-set matches in singles play, with GGC taking two of them.
The Grizzlies built a 3-0 early advantage in doubles play.
In singles action, Erik Moberg (8-0 singles record), Tony Kostadinov (8-0), Hernan Hatem (2-0) and Nathan de Veer (1-0) each stayed unbeaten on the year.
Bruno Tiberti cruised by a 6-0, 6-2 score at first singles, while Moberg pulled through in a 6-7, 7-5, 10-5 victory on the number two line.
Connor Clements fell in a 10-6 third set tiebreaker but Kostadinov won by the same score in his final set as GGC played its second of four matches this week.
The Grizzlies meet NCAA Div. II No. 2 Armstrong Atlantic on Thursday in Savannah at 2 p.m.
