The fifth-ranked Georgia Gwinnett men's tennis team shut out 21st-ranked NCAA Division II squad USC Aiken on Sunday, 9-0, on the Pacers' home courts in Aiken, S.C.
The Grizzlies (2-0) captured all six singles matches in straight sets, handing USC Aiken (2-1) its first loss of the year.
"Our team played extremely well," said Grizzlies head coach Chase Hodges. "A shutout over a solid team on the road is a great start to our early season."
Georgia Gwinnett moved out to fast start in doubles play. Mark Verryth and Erik Moberg won at first doubles, 8-6, while the teams of Bruno Tiberti/Connor Clements and Matias Hatem/Luke Morland pulled out 8-3 and 8-2 wins, respectively.
In singles play, Verryth earned a 6-4, 6-4 win on the top line over the Pacers' Ettore Damiani.
Bruno Tiberti muscled out a 6-3, 7-5 triumph at second singles versus Andy Quirk, while Matias Hatem needed just 13 games to secure a 6-0, 6-1 third singles win against Alejandro Andino.
Erik Moberg, Tony Kostadinov and Connor Clements completed the GGC sweep as all players moved to 2-0 so far in the team season.
The Grizzlies now prepare for a busy upcoming week with three more road matches Feb. 14-16, beginning Friday at No. 13 Belhaven.
