GGC 5, Reinhardt 4
The Georgia Gwinnett softball team scored a 5-4 win Sunday at Reinhardt University to snap the ninth-ranked Eagles’ 25-game winning streak in a rainy Waleska, Ga.
After falling in a close 7-3 opener, the Grizzlies outlasted the Eagles in game two to give RU just its fourth defeat in 41 games this year.
Halley Ingram, Heaven Hinton and Alycia Fields each had two hits for GGC in the victory while Hinton drove in a pair of runs.
The Grizzlies (16-22) broke a 3-3 tie with two scores in the sixth before Ashley Beyke preserved her 14th win of the season in the circle. Starter Tiffany Bailey scattered five hits over 4.1 innings.
In the opener, Felicia Shelton drove in two runs as GGC took a brief fifth inning lead, 3-2. The Eagles (37-4) scored the game’s final five runs as starter Maddie Monroe ran her record to a perfect 21-0 on the season.
Heather Kilar went 2-for-3 with a run scored for GGC while Ingram and Marlee Morales each added a run.
The Grizzlies had played the Eagles closely earlier this season as well, falling in two one-run games in February.
Georgia Gwinnett is set to open the new Grizzly Softball Complex on campus this Wednesday in a doubleheader with USC Beaufort beginning at 2 p.m. in Lawrenceville.
