The Georgia Gwinnett softball team struck first in each contest Saturday but fell to Thomas University, 10-5, and Southern Wesleyan University, 6-2, in wintry conditions at the Collins Hill High School softball complex.

In Saturday’s finale, Thomas (7-5) used a walk-off single to outlast Southern Wesleyan (8-4) by a 5-4 margin.
Game One- Thomas 10, GGC 5
Hinton belted a solo home run in the second inning, then smacked a two-run double in the fourth as the Grizzlies built a 3-0 lead.
A seven-run inning pushed Thomas in front in the fifth, but GGC tallied a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-5.
RBIs from Mary Ellen Pilitowski and Ashleigh Simmons brought the Grizzlies within two, but three runs from Thomas over the final two innings put the game out of reach.
Game Two- SWU 6, GGC 2
The Grizzlies once again snagged an early lead, this time with an RBI single from Pilitowski in the first inning to score Halley Ingram.
Starter Tiffany Bailey kept GGC close and trailing 3-1 in the fifth, the Grizzlies cut the deficit. Alycia Fields doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Ingram to make it 3-2.
The teams went scoreless in the sixth before a three-run seventh by the Night Hawks proved too much for the Grizzlies.
The teams battled through wintry precipitation through much of the day as temperatures hovered in the 30’s.
The Grizzlies host a scrimmage Sunday before returning to game action Tuesday against Truett-McConnell College in Lawrenceville.
