The Georgia Gwinnett softball team wrapped up the Gulf Coast Invitational against a tough field with an 8-4 loss to the University of Houston-Victoria on Sunday in Gulf Shores, Ala.
The Grizzlies (3-14) pushed across a run in the first inning and two more in the fourth but a four-run fourth from the Jaguars (4-14) made the difference.
Playing their fifth game in three days, GGC dropped to 0-4 in neutral action.
Halley Ingram tripled and scored for the Grizzlies in the first inning, then drove in two runs with a single in the fourth. Heather Kilar led off the fourth with a single and later scored.
The Grizzlies had three hits and took advantage of an error to score once in the sixth to make it 7-4, but a final run from UHV in the bottom of the inning finished the scoring.
Georgia Gwinnett returns home to face another national power in Lee University (Tenn.) on Tuesday. The preseason No. 11 Flames, who also appeared at the GCI in Gulf Shores, enter the week a perfect 17-0.
First pitch of Tuesday's doubleheader at the Collins Hill High School softball complex is set for 3 p.m.
