It was all Grizzlies early and often Saturday on the Grizzly Soccer Field in a 19-0 victory over Hiwassee College in the Georgia Gwinnett men’s soccer team’s final game of the season.
The win caps the Grizzlies’ stellar inaugural season at 14-2-2. The Tigers dropped to 0-10 with the defeat.
Senior Greg Hartley, normally a standout in net for the Grizzlies, tallied seven goals on offense on the day. Fellow senior Tom Butler scored eight times as the two combined for 15 goals and six assists in their final appearance in a Grizzly uniform.
Alejandro Duque, who rounded out GGC’s senior trio, scored his eighth goal of the year in the win.
Iain Struckmeyer made four saves in goal for the Grizzlies as GGC built a 41-6 edge in shots.
Victor De Lima, Juan Matute and Ibrahima Sissoko also got on the board for Georgia Gwinnett.
Butler finishes his final campaign with a team-high 28 goals and 65 total points. Freshman Martin Lugo added 11 scores in his first season while Sissoko tallied 10.
Georgia Gwinnett finishes 7-1-1 at home this season in Lawrenceville.
As a first-year NAIA member, the Grizzlies are not eligible to advance to postseason play.
