Box Score

Freshman Ibrahima Sissoko scored a season-high three goals to lead the Georgia Gwinnett men’s soccer team to its fourth-straight win with a 9-1 victory over Florida College Friday afternoon on the Grizzly Soccer Field.

Tom Butler and German Rodriguez each added two goals apiece as GGC stretched a 3-0 halftime advantage into an eight-goal win.

The Grizzlies stand at 11-2-1 after the win and dropped the Falcons to 8-6 on the year in the process.

Georgia Gwinnett has won four straight since a one-goal loss to top-rated Auburn Montgomery on Oct. 6.

“I thought we did a lot of very good things today,” GGC head coach Steve DeCou said of the win. “We controlled a majority of the play. It’s always difficult to beat a team twice in a season, we knew that going in. But we were dangerous all over the park.”

Butler and Sissoko teamed up for the game’s first goal in the 11th minute. David Burke and Butler each added scores in the first half as GGC took a 3-0 lead into the break.

Butler struck again in the 58th minute to open a string of seven Grizzlies goals in a span of 28 minutes.

Sissoko scored the next two Grizzlies goals, sandwiched around the Falcons’ lone tally by Jacob Snidle in the 70th minute.

Rodriguez would score twice in a five-minute span down the stretch while Ike Marcussi added the final score in the 86th minute.

Sissoko also had two assists for a season-best eight points, while Butler added a personal-high three assists in the win.

Sissoko has scored six times for the Grizzlies in the last four games.

“He has really come on to it,” said DeCou about his freshman midfielder. “He’s one of the kids who has really jumped ahead leaps and bounds so we are very pleased with his performance.”

The win sweeps a season series for GGC against the Falcons after a 5-0 decision in Temple Terrace, Fla., Sep. 29.

Georgia Gwinnett hosts Oakwood University on Sunday on the Grizzly Soccer Field at 1 p.m.
