Darren Wilkins joined the Georgia Gwinnett College women's basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach for the program's inaugural 2025-26 season.
Wilkins served as an athletic director and boys varsity head coach at Salem High School (Georgia) where he was named the 2012 Georgia Athletic Coaches Association All-Star basketball coach. His teams recorded a better record than the previous season in seven of his eight years as a basketball coach.
From 2001-04 he was the boys varsity head coach at Americus High School (Georgia) where he guided the team to the 2003 Americus Holiday Classic championship.
Wilkins began his head coaching career at Sumter County High School (Georgia) from 1995-98. Nine student-athletes were recruited to play collegiate basketball. He began his high school coaching career at Sumter County.
Wilkins' prior college coaching experience was with the women's basketball program at Georgia College. The team won 60 percent of games from 1986-90.
He received a master of science degree in physical education from Georgia College and State University in 1989.
