Steve Less enters his seventh season as a member of the Grizzly baseball staff. Less has served as GGC’s pitching coach since joining the program prior to the 2014 spring season.
His first season with the Grizzlies proved successful, as GGC boasted a pair of MLB First-Year Player Draft picks as a part of its pitching staff in starting pitcher Tyler Carpenter and reliever Zeke McGranahan. Carpenter also became the first All-American in GGC baseball history.
Less pitched professionally for one season with the Slippery Rock Sliders of the Independent Frontier League before pursuing a career in coaching.
Less brings to GGC nine years of baseball coaching experience. He was a member of the Wittenberg staff for two stints, aiding in recruiting and the team’s pitching staff from 2006-08 and 2010-11. He also served as a travel team coach in the greater-Chicago area in 2009.
After serving as pitching coach for the Grand Lake Mariners of the Great Lakes summer collegiate league in 2001, Less became the interim head coach and pitching coach at former NAIA member Iowa Wesleyan in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Following one year at Iowa Wesleyan, Less relocated to the Atlanta area and served as the pitching coach for Emory University in 2013.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Less played collegiately at NCAA Division III institution Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. A two-time all-North Coast Athletic Conference selection, Less started on the mound for the Tigers from 2002-06. Less captained the squad for two years and was a Student-Athlete Advisory Council member.
He holds a bachelor's degree from Wittenberg (2006) and a master of science in sports management from Southern New Hampshire (2012).
Less continues to lead a talented pitching staff and will continue to lay the foundation for the Grizzly program for years to come.
Less and his wife, Doria, reside in Atlanta, Ga.
