Dalton Martinez

Dalton Martinez enters his third season as a member of the Grizzly baseball staff.  Martinez serves as GGC’s infield coach since joining the program prior to the 2015 spring season.

A native of Memphis, Tenn., Martinez attended Christian Brothers High School (Tenn.) where he was a three-time letterwinner, winning the Tennessee State Championship in 2007.  Over three seasons, Martinez received All-District and All-Region honors as a shortstop.

Martinez played collegiately at Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Ga., for three seasons.  In 2014, Martinez received an All-SSAC selection as a third baseman and was named to the SSAC All-Tournament team.  He was a member of SPSU’s 2014 SSAC conference championship team that competed at the NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho. 

Currently, Martinez is working towards completing his undergraduate degree majoring in psychology while minoring in business.

Notably, Martinez’s brother, Drew, was an eighth-round selection by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 2012 MLB Draft and currently serves as an assistant coach with the University of Memphis (Tenn.).  His father, Chito, also played professional baseball with the Baltimore Orioles (1991-93).

During the summer, Martinez serves as the head coach for the Prospect Gwinnett Tide and is the assistant coach for the Gwinnett Tide.  In 2015, Martinez led the Prospect team to a league championship.

Martinez resides in Lawrenceville, Ga.
