Men’s Tennis Starts Final Road Trip with Sweep

The top-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College men's tennis team began the final week of the regular season with a convincing 5-0 victory at Bethel University on Tuesday afternoon in McKenzie, Tennessee.

The Grizzlies (19-0) seized early momentum in the road dual match by winning the doubles point. The team of senior Juan Carlos Garcia and freshman Yerassyl Yerdilda won six of the seven games on the No. 2 court to start the strong doubles play.

The senior tandem of Luis Francisco Sampedro and Santiago Villarruel then secured the early advantage with a 6-3 victory on the No. 1 court. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association's top-ranked NAIA doubles team has won 10 consecutive matches.

Vuglar forehandGGC closed out the match with four straight-set singles triumphs. Freshman Luka Vuglar won all 12 games on the No. 4 court before Villarruel was victorious by a 6-2, 6-3 score at the top of the lineup.

Carlos Garcia scored a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles and Yerdilda was victorious by 6-4, 6-0 scores on the No. 2 court.

"The guys were clinical and motivated to finish fast. We now rest and go at it again tomorrow (vs. No. 14 Missouri Baptist). This trip is great practice for the flow of the upcoming NAIA nationals," said Head Coach Tom Rees.
